We are located in Gore, (The World Capital of Brown Trout Fishing)  which is the second largest town in Southland in the south of the South Island of New Zealand.

Trout-Book.com owners, Wayne & Sue, after 15 years running their book shop in Gore's, Main Street now run their web site from their home in Devon Street, Gore.

Wayne is a very passionate fly fisherman and enthusiastic fly-tier and has fished the Mataura River since 1972. Please  feel free to ask any questions regarding fishing the local rivers in Southland. Wayne does not guarantee that he knows all of the answers but he just might know some one that will.

"CDC Emerger" tied on size G18-G20, Black Magic hook. I find these hooks do not straighten out on our large Mataura trout. I have landed 80 fish on this fly this season. I tie several variations to this fly, (more CDC, less CDC, feathers tied back ) and they all work well. The CDC feathers that we get from our local Mallard ducks are very dark compared to the ones available in our shops and I think make all the difference.
